Morning guys and gals,
Yesterday I set up my new grizzly G0609×12” jointer. I bought the spiral head also.
Overall this machine looks to be a beautiful addition to my shop. It runs very quiet. easily passed the nickel test on both infeed and outfeed tables.
Here’s the problem, When I hold a 6” machinists square to the infeed table and the fence it is dead square 90 degrees. (there is a slight cup to the fence though)
When I hold the square to the end of the outfeed table and the fence it is out by .012. This tells me the fence is twisted.

I checked both infeed and outfeed tables and they are dead parallel with each other and the cutter head so I am sure the fence is twisted.
My options are to call Grizzly and order a new fence or get their opinion. Or take the fence to a machinist and have it remilled.
Can I get some opinions here from you guys as to what you would do.
thanks
Gregg in Ky.

It is under warranty. Call Grizzly and have them make it right.

Gregg, I would call Grizzly and get a new fence, for several reasons:
1. Having a machinist mill your fence could release internal stresses in the metal and cause it more problems down the road.
2. You just spent a pile of money on a great jointer, why should you spend any more to make it right.
3. Fixing the problem yourself does not give Grizzly the feedback it needs to insure quality products.

I have several tools made by Grizzly and found that their customer service department is very helpful, and responsive.

Just my 2 cents worth,

I’ve straightened out a number of jointer fences over the years by clamping it to a bench and clampimping a 2×4 to it to flex it. Bending it a bit past the .012” will get it in really close by a few thousandths. Cast will flex a bit and .012” is a pretty small amount. I have spent 25 years as a repair tech and Metalsmith so it is a proven technique and not just some arm chair theory. There is more to having it milled than one would imagine. One could easily make it far worse than better.

Grizzly has great service. Call them and get a replacement. I have to do this almost every time I buy from them. If you mess with it and make it worse, they could say that it’s not their problem since you messed with it.

I appreciate the replies. Let me say first off that you may have thought the obvious answer was to return it.
I have an excellent machinist near by and was thinking about what solution would be the quickest.
Well I called Grizz today and they are going to send a new fence assembly not just the fence. And they told me to keep the old one. They also told me they would inspect the new one to make sure it’s not cupped or twisted.
I’m very impressed with their customer support.
By the way, this jointer is awesome, It’s so quiet.
thanks again everyone

I’m glad you decided to call.

The manufacturer should always be the first stop with a brand new machine.
