Topic tags/keywords: question

Hey, in some of my posts and replies there is a link to somewhere I did not add!!!

When you pass the mouse over the link a message is shown: “Link added by VigLink”. These links point to ebay items and other external stuff.

I am NOT adding any links nor making money out of my posts, apart from the fact that these links may be annoying for other visitors.

I warn about this, just in case…

Links only show up if you are NOT logged in.

So… what happened to this? It used to be only when not logged in, but I’m seeing them all over now, and I am logged in…

Yep, same here. I have been seeing them all over the site since Sunday(ish) while logged in.

It’s kind of obnoxious, as it’s going to eventually make me miss useful things that people legitimately post as links on text, simply because I’ll just assume it’s the proprietors of LumberJocks wanting more money out of me…

Considering we’re not paying for this site, it’s fair game to keep it afloat. With so many users on board and new ones coming everyday, something has to give. None of the ads bother me as long as it doesn’t intrude on my ability to view projects, post projects, and post comments, which it hasn’t except the server transition.

I’m fine with the banners, and even if they wanted to sneak an ad post in ever 10 or 15 posts on a forum thread. I just don’t like when they use my posted content as advertising for something that’s likely only very loosely related to what I’m actually talking about, and probably not something I’d endorse.

Am I the only one who has the links back again?
YES, I am logged in but yesterday and today I noticed the blue words and sure enough, when I mouse over them, there’s the link.

I AM logged in and I AM running ad blocker.
Is this something the new owners have started up again?

Just discovered this VigLink thing in a comment i made on a project. I see no way to remove the links.
Now i dont mind the ads on the site but this is, in my opinion, something rather different: It makes it look like I personally are trying to sell stuff.
It makes me feel uncomfortable that text i have written suddenly is not the same text anymore.

Are there a way to stop this?

I noticed this as well and even started a new thread asking if my computer had a problem or if it was the new owners. I guess I now know the answer. I will delete my thread so all the responses will be in one location, hopefully.

These have been there since long before the new owners but they should only be displaying for guests, not when you are logged in. Let me check with the company to see what happened.

Here is where the announcement was made.

I have contacted the company about the issue and they will be taking care of this for us so they are only displayed to guests. Please be patient with me while they take care of this.

I use Adblock Plus with Firefox. This supresses the links that people are seeing.

As a bonus, loading the main LJs page takes 7 seconds with ads and 1.5 seconds without.

These New Links have very little if anything to do with “the announcement”.

They appear everywhere, even in the titles of Members Posts & Project Titles in Dark Blue. Also everywhere in ANYONE’S comments on anyone else’s Post.

I’ve been on here just shy of 5 Years. Never seen anything even close to this before. Ads are one thing. This XXXX is another thing!

Fixed, so they’re only displayed to Guests? If that’s the way they want to go, that’s up to them I guess. What do you think “The Guests” Reaction would be to signing up as a Member?

It’s also not good if Members want to add Links to their Posts, how do we know the difference, other than hovering over it to see if “VigLink’s” name comes up. Yes! They show if you’re Signed in or not.

If you click on any of them you will be taken to any of 3/4/5 locations that sell that product.

I also use Avast as my Anti Virus Program. They’ve recently added an “Online Security” Tab to my Tool Bar for EVERY Site I happen to be on. I Clicked on it for here. ”5 Companies tried to Track you” Google AdSense, Google GPT, Google Analytics, Scorecard Research, and Krax.

That’s it!

I saw them yesterday I think, or maybe the day before, haven’t noticed them since.

To be honest I don’t like it, even if only visible to guests. It implies I personally am advertising or endorsing these things.
