(Not sure this is the right forum)

My deck (screen porch) was installed by the builder 5+ years ago of pressure treated lumber.

Nails have started popping. I am inclined to pull any popped nails and replace with slightly longer screws (ceramic coated?, star drive?)

Suggestions please…
Pulling and screwing good idea?
If yes, what type of screws etc.

I have been replacing popping nails in my deck for 15 years. I use deck screws available at the big box stores, they are corrosion resistant.

sound like you are on the right track

the screws to use are those star or square drive ones
they are harder than gold deck screws
and of course more expensive too

stay away from the square/philips head ones
they don’t work to good with either bit
not enough ‘meat’ there for either to do a good job

but the good thing with the better screw
is they have a bit in each box
that is just right for the head

Definitely pull and replace with screws.
I always use Deckmates and never had a problem. Just dont use the type made for composite wood. Smaller head design.

I just put a porch on the back of my house and it contains zero nails, nadda one.
T25 and T20 star decking screws, expensive but worth it.

Yep, replace the nails with screws. You can buy deck screws at various lengths at the home stores that are coated and work great for decking.
