I find that certain things I chew thru a lot, and have need of some things in the future that in time really add up when you buy them a bit at a time like they are packaged at most hardware stores. Example is the corner and t-braces which cost a couple bucks each packaged as pairs, but less than 50c each in boxes of 50.. I found those oddly enough thru a vendor that sells on Amazon. Now I find myself in need of boxes of #8 wood screws in various lengths, butt hings, cabinet clasps, and hopefully even locks. I lucked out on cabinet pulls when Lee Valley apparently bought out the stock of some really nice cabinet pulls made of brass and white porcelain that I was already looking at and sold them at 69c each in lots of 10. I bought 100 so I’m fixed probably for life. The things normally went from $3.50-$4 each.

Any of you have good vendors for small hardware in box quantities that doesn’t rape you on shipping and handling? Amazon doesn’t sell much hardware themselves, and what they do they jack the price up so high the local hardware stores are better.

Sometimes you can find someone trying to get rid of some inventory on ebay or craigslist. Try looking under materials. Also some of your local “Crap” I mean thrift stores will have a box or two if they have someone that will put it out and not chuck it. Also check out your local home recycling center, the kind of place you can get used doors and windows and the like.
