So here’s the deal…...my girl friend has 2 bowls that were used for chicken feed on her grandfather’s farm….probably 50+ years ago. The larger of the two, about 15 inches in diameter had a very large crack about 1/2 way across. I lightly sanded them yesterday and gave them a coat of Watco to bring them up a little…....this evening I was putting on a second coat when the large bowl slipped out of my hand, hit the bench and fell to the floor…....cracked into two pieces. They fit back together nicely, so I cleaned, glued and clamped. Some of the glue line, though, already had Watco seeping onto the raw face…......question 1 – what are the chances this glue will hole?..........question 2 – any suggestions if it doesn’t?

Thanks in advance,
joe

After gluing is a bit late to ask. I don’t think it’ll come apart even if there are some area’s that the glue is weak in. For future reference, you can absorb as much oil as possible with saw dust, blow it dry and dab some denatured alcohol on the affected area. That should dry it out good.

I drop a lot of stuff when I’m finishing it. I broke a walnut bowl almost the same way you did this one. It didn’t dry well after that. If it’s a natural gap, everything is cool, but if you crack one while its wet, just throw it away.
