Just saw a CL ad for this 8” spiral jointer for $1200.

My research showed that this unit is probably at least 8 years old and that it was probably purchased for around $1200 back then.

I offered $500.

Is this guy crazy for asking this much? I see a Grizzly G0490X for $1400 delivered brand new!!

Cutting-edge tech like spiral heads will catch the
best resale value. It used to be Tersa heads were
the standard for fine jointers – now Tersa is
old technology.

Used a standard 8” jointer goes for $400-$600
in my area. Considering the cost of an upgrade
to an insert head, I expect the seller won’t be
impressed with your offer and will get a better
one.

That new one from Grizzly comes with a Spiral Cutter as well.

Strange pricing I guess.

Agreed.

Here’s another one for $1375 delivered. Has a 3HPmotor too, vs. the 2HP on the G0543.

You would have to be retarded to pay $1200 for that.

FWIW, I bought a 2-yr old G0593 8in Spiral head cutter for $700, nearly 3yr ago. The G0543 is almost an identical jointer in size, hp, and foot print.

Hope this helps…

my general rule of thumb is I expect to pay half of the cost of a new one. I have been looking at used 8” jointers and it looks like I may end up with new. mike that was a fair deal I just can’t find those deals in my area. I will wait till the right deal comes around.
