Topic tags/keywords: shop fox drill press benchtop question

Hi

I just bought one of these off craigslist and the tag says it’s a w1668 and was made in 2002. When I search, that model comes up as a benchtop model but mine is a floor model.

Did they just change to a benchtop model in later years and keep the same number or has someone added a taller post? If they added a taller post it looks factory.

Thanks

Sam

maybe a check with grizzly CS will provide the necessary insights. shop fox is the dealer supported arm of grizzly.:

I concur , the W1668 is Shop Fox’s well known bench top press. Sounds as though
it was modified.

Well, all the stuff I have read about grizzly customer service seems to be true. The lady was very friendly and helpful and I ended up ordering a new dust port since mine was broken sometime in its life. Also ordered the drum sander kit and mandrel since those were missing as well.

She then gave me the number to technical support and the guy there said that they did make a floor model. He wasn’t as talkative though, just said that they did make one. So I don’t know why or when the floor model was changed to a bench model.
All in all I’m pretty happy with the drill press so far.

Have your say...
