Topic tags/keywords: question

Listed for 600. I am not sure how old it is. It seems the newer models are also called
54A. And they retail new on Amazon for twice the asking price of this particular jointer.

If it were 10 years old and otherwise in good shape would 600 be a fair price ?

Things I should look for if I go take a look ?

Next to an older vintage delta the 54a would be my choice for a semi-duty machine. I was just about to buy one myself but decided to try the long bed grizz with spiral head.

I really don’t have any regrets on the grizz but it is my opinion that the 54a is a superior machine.

If I needed a jointer I wouldn’t hesitate, even at that price. A better price would be 450-500.

Good luck JB

I have the 54HH with helical head and could not be happier. HH aside, my 54 frame is stable, beds are flat, beds are pretty long, fence is square, pretty simple to tune up and adjust, I really like this machine. Assuming its in good shape, I’d offer the guy 500 and if he says no give him his 600 and start straight-lining some boards.

Thanks all. I wasn’t really looking to buy a jointer just yet, but I might just call tomorrow and see if its still available.
