Spent $30 today. I think I didn't do too bad. Wood, sander and a skil saw.

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. I know I did. Me, my mom and my youngest son went on a trip to see a friend out of town and pick up some wood. Here’s the haul I came back with.

Not even sure what brand the sander is. I didn’t even pay attention. There’s no blade on it but you can see that there is an electric skil saw in the bucket. I think it’s black and decker. I’ve run into some issues where the battery on mine dies and I’m stuck. So he threw that in.

This guy was super at helping load things up. He wanted to load as much wood as he could get his hands on. When I was taking the pictures he said “don’t you want me in the picture? I helped.” lol

I think for $30… i didn’t do too bad. And if I help unstack and restack the other wood pile… there’s at least another load of this same stuff. Most of it’s pine. There is some oak in there too. These are all from pallets where my friend works. They throw away more than this every day. I told him I’ll take whatever he can get me.

Great haul, great helper. Looks like you are well on your way to being a wood hoarder like the rest of us.

Not a bad haul.
Side note….don’t post pics of kids on the internet. Just sayin’. (mother of three and a teacher.)

Sometimes it’s a curse to find a source of free / cheap wood. Ask me how I know : )
Congrats on your haul though !!

Way to go, Angie. That sander looks like a 4×36. You can find good belts on line for it for about $2 a piece. they sure come in handy in the shop. Great for outside contours. I use me for everything-wood, brass, plastic, aluminum and steel! One thin you should get is an “eraser” for the sanding belt. It is like a rubber block that is used for cleaning sanding belts/discs. Don’t let it load up and it will last a whole lot longer.

One other thing, if you run that used wood through the planer, check it for nails and clean all the dirt off of it with a wire brush first. A little dirt will take out a planer knife real quick

Joein10asee… Yes. I know I do. Lol :)

Jim… Thanks for the reminder. I need to get me a wand /metal detector. Most of this stuff was cleaned up (as far as metal) by the guy I got it from. But some is dirty. Other isnt. I have a brush that I have that I clean every board off with before I put it through the planer. And I spend a little more time going over it making sure there is no metal.

And yes… The sander is 4×36. I need to get on ebay and find some belts.

Oh yeah… Did I mention that he also gave me a pack of blades for my scroll saw?
Yes Joe… I know :)
