Buying a mortiser this week, Powermatic. What’s a good set of chisels to use? Dont really want junky ones, and i dont think the PM701 comes with them.

Powermatic chisels are unique and nothing fits the but Powermatic. But hey it IS Powermatic! If its gold, it’s good!

Oh ok then! That was easy haha. I figured Powermatic’s chisels would be garbage. I’m very excited for this tool. I’ve read so many positive reviews, love the features, and just plain cant wait to own a piece of the “gold standard”

Even the cheaper chisels, just polish the outsides to a mirror finish and get the basic sharpening kit for the inside.

I bought a set of ShopFox mortising chisels for my Powermatic and they were reasonable priced and fit good.

I have a set of shop fox chisels that I never used because they did not fit my Jet mortiser. PM if you’re interested, I’ll let them go cheap. I can measure the ends when I get home to see if they will work for your powermatic.

I’ll second what Russ said as for which chisels. I remember reading a review saying that the cheap chisels are just as good as the premium brands. I guess both take a little work to get sharp when new.

Alright cool, it will be here in a few days. I’ll contact you about the chisels. I’m sure jet will fit powermatic since theyre both owned but the same company.
