Topic tags/keywords: question purpleheart

I just bought a nice chunk of purple heart to do an end grain cutting board. After planning it down a little I quickly realized all the purple color had disappeared and turn brown. Is there any way to get the purple back? If I do get it back, will salad bowl finish darken it to the point its not purple anymore?
thanks in advance for the help!

Contact with air and sunlight will bring the color back

A lot of woods like Purpleheart and Cherry will benefit from a day out in the sun after the work is done but before finishing.

It will get darker as it ages regardless of what finish you use. It’s a beautiful wood.

mainly contact with sunlight or if that isn’t available then use a fourescent shoplight. i think it’s the UV rays that make it change color but definitely expose it to light before you put a finish on it.
