Topic tags/keywords: wood types grain list chart

I was looking through the suggestions for Enhancments for LJ and I was interested in Karson’s suggestion that we have: A wood library where different type of wood could be shown and updated by others that might have some variation of the same wood.

It’s a great idea that shouldn’t be forgotten. Now, I don’t know how to do a technical library that could be updated directly but I think it would work if we posted a picture showing the grain and other characteristics of the wood, and label the type of wood it is.

Obi has provided us with a link to a wood chart shown here (Thanks Obi)

WILLOW (of course)

(willow log) (willow grain)

This wood does have a coating of finishing oil on it.

Thomas Porter posted this link to wood textures….very hi-res pictures of different wood grains. Great for use in Sketchup and for identifying wood.
