I’ve seen a lot of posts about what routers, and what bits to buy on here and thought I would post this as a statement to the ultra gearhead know it alls, and to maybe find out if anyone might recognize and know what I have as a router bit set. That’s a very small 5/8 hp B&D router that has served me well over the years. I still love to reach for it for many projects because it is so light, easy to control, and those super high tech bits I paid maybe paid $10-$15 for the set seem to cut thru small projects like butter.

These were both bargain purchases, I am not sure what I paid or them, but I assure you it was not much, but I think it important to note they were purchased when i was in my very early 20s. Right after I graduated college. Probably was 21 or 22 at the time. I’m 53 now. The first project, which paid for the tools, was to build a dog house. Thing was being right out of college, Mr. Arch the Golden Retriever needed a good sized house, especially since I was also shopping for a mate for him at the time. Since I needed to be mobile, the house had to be portable, so I used a clever 2×2 frame construction dovetailed together with plywood to make the house. All the panels broke down and screwed together so you could unscrew and undovetail things and go.

Many other projects have been made. None furniture grade of course, but it served my purposes to help learn. I still use them and will even though I have better now.

Anyone have any idea where I got that bit set? It been pretty good, only had one bit give me grief, bearing went out on one of them, but may have been my fault.

Let’s not go into discussions of the quality of B&D tools now, the one your looking at is over 30 years old. It not the same animal as todays, and it works.

The bits might be CMT based on the color, but I’m not sure how long they’ve been in business. They’re still great bits.
