Topic tags/keywords: vintage brace open ratchet

Found this 8” brace with an open ratchet and spring pins for setting the ratchet direction. Never saw one before. Has some markings but really not readable. Looks like No. 1C is one of them. Anybody shed any light on what the background is on this is?

You might try rubbing the logo area with a rag and some WD40. Might just be able to read it without any damage to the tool.

The double-lever ratcheting system was made by PS&W (Peck, Stowe & Wilcox). They’re nice braces. I’ve got model 102A. If you’re interested in the history you can check out (Sandy’s Tools) and drill on down through the brace stuff until you find the PS&W page.
