Topic tags/keywords: question resource lathe turning

My Father recently gave me a JET1014 mini lathe which had sat dormant since 2002, made in 2001. Having replaced the capacitor it still spins slow if at all. For giggles I took it apart and blew it out, no corrosion was seen and nothing came out. As it is a second lathe I have no immediate need for a replacement but am hoping somone knows someone that rebuilds motors or where I can find a better deal than $185 from JET directly. Any advice or sources most welcome.

I don’t know what size motor you need, but I just ran across this ad in Colorado Craigslist: http://fortcollins.craigslist.org/mat/3743234791.html

Dayton 1/3 hp $15

Sorry I am not familiar with Jet mini lathes. I know Grizzly sells replacement motors. For curiosity, I looked at their mini lathes. I found a replacement motor for a Grizzly Mini Lathe model H8259. Check it out, it may work for you. I posted a link below. Cost is $90

Depending on the type/size of mount you might find a new surplus motor at surpluscenter.com
Right now they’ve got one with those specs in a face-mount 56 frame, item Item# 10-2161 for $30.
