My shop is a two car garage. My DC is in a separate one car garage where I park my car, nice and quiet. My wife agreed to park outside, she’s a wonderful woman. I have a Delta 50-760 with about a 25 foot run of 4” black pipe to my cabinet saw on one leg and another 15-20 ft run to my 8” jointer, and 15”stationary planner on the second leg with the requisite number of 45s and Ys. Been running fine for two years. Now I want to add additional dc for a Performax 16/32 with a 2 ½”port, a 16” (Scrolling) band saw with a 2 ½”port and an 18” (resaw) band saw with two 4” ports. (about 30 feet of 4” black pipe). I think it’s too much to ask of the 760. I’m thinking I’ll add a 2HP HF DC for the additional equipment in the one car garage. Seems like the most cost effective solution. I’ve been using a Fein shop vac for the Performax and its marginally and barely enough. I’m wondering if I should modify the Performax hood to a 4” port to increase volume into my new DC. Does my plan make sense? Anyone modified a 16/32 dust port? Advice? Comments?

If you hook a dust collector to the Performax without opening up the connection point, 2 1/2”, you will have less collection than you do with a shop vac on that same connection. I have the same situation on my planer.

On the other hand, I would be reluctant to go carving on an existing machine connection. If I could, I would rather add another hood, with a 4” connector to the sander and hook them both to the dust collector. To make that work the best you need to run the 2 1/2” and the 4” into a wye and then to the collector with a 5” or a 6” line.

Does that really have 2.5” port? The pics I looked at seemed to have a 4”. Anyway, on my Delta 18/36, I just removed the factory hood (4” port) and made a wooden one that has a 6” port. Like crank said, the 2.5” will almost certainly work better with a shop vac than a DC. Anyway, here’s a pic of my DS, just remember I’m very much a function over form kind of guy.

Thank you both. I thought that was what I had been reading
