Topic tags/keywords: question jointer refurbishing joining

i have the chance to get an old Craftsman jointer, aling with a few other tools, but specifically had a few questions about the jointer. The jointer is not in the best shape and has alot of surface rust on the cast frame and fence, how would i go about cleaning off the rust? Additionally, it is sitting on a home made wooden stand that is in bad shape, so would it be easier to build a new stand, or see if i might be able to find a stand that would fit? Also, would craftsman still have blades available, or where would be a good place to buy new blades. thanks for the help.

I have an old Delta, blades are no longer available, but I buy Ridgid ones, and machine them to the right width.

The surface rust shouldn’t be a problem. I used WD-40 and steel wool to fix mine when I got it.

As for the base, I have a Mastercraft base that I added a motor platform to.

Good luck
