Topic tags/keywords: cutting board finishing

Can anyone tell me why?

Did a cutting board 1 month ago… been using it on one side… cut, wash, etc.
Why is it that the underside of the cutting board (which as not been used) is still really smooth and the top is ruff (not smooth) . I have been adding wax and oil on both side.

Confused ;-(

you’re cutting the wood fibers and getting it wet! STOP that!

My cutting boards rarely see water. Once in a great while I have to hit them with some hot water and the plastic scrubby sponge, but mostly they get wiped down real good and if they need cleaning they get scrubbed with salt and about a tablespoon of water.

I don’t get it. If you are chopping away on it, isn’t this result to be expected ??

have not been cutting on all of the board. I think its because of washing the board with a wet cloth . Guess the grain is creeping back. Weird!
