I do some odds and ends favors for a buddy of mine. He called me up to see if I would takes some boards off of his Uncles hands that had been sitting in his garage for about 10 years. He knew that i did some wood working and figured I could do something with them. I told him to load them up and I would find some use for them. So about an hour later he shows up pulling a trailer full of rough cut lumber. It turns out that this was rough cut Cherry that had been cut on his uncles portable saw mill. Well after we unloaded it and I had a chance to go through it, here is what was in the pile:
30 1×6 8’; 16 1×8 8’; 29 1×10 8’; and 11 1×12-8’ A total of 86 boards amounting to 543 bdft!
The best thing about this deal…....is when I asked him how much, he said this is a thanks for all the help you have did for me in the past!!! I DID NOT PAY HIM A DIME!! I am not sure how much it is worth but even at $3/bdft that is almost $1700 !!!
I ran a piece over my jointer quick to see what it looked like and it has a beautiful character grain to it with almost a Quarter Sawn appearance!
So I guess you will see some future projects of mine being done in Cherry!!
