this is only a suggestion, that I myself would use many times if available.

I currently use a Dewalt 18v hammer drill for my drilling needs. I would like to see a poll of LJ members, one what they would like to own (bosch impact, milwaukee, etc).
This could also apply to planers, jointers, table saws, routers, hand planes, etc. Something a big more centralized on a page or two with polling numbers from many members, instead of a single 1-5rated review from a single member.

As it stands now, i have to ‘search lumberjocks’ window and type in ‘bosch drill’ and over 10 pages pops up.
I assume this would be ‘suggestion #1707’ of the ever growing LJ’s wish list :)

I often want something similiar – an “easy” way to determine what LJs collectively recommend. I suspect its not so simple.

In my case, I’d prefer to know those tools that LJs actually own AND have used for a long time AND still love. For example, I’ve had my 3 hp Unisaw for 5 years now, and every time I make a cut I think “Boy! Am I lucky!!!”. That is, not just a wish-list vote, but an actual experience vote.

And I do worry that this might not be fair to the tool makers. It seems that people are much more inclined to complain than they are to compliment. So “votes” might be skewed if someone gets a bad apple, or just doesn’t have the skill to use the tool purchased.

The tools of our passion aren’t cheap, so I really want to make every dollar invested count. I’m just not sure an “easy” answer will actually yield a smart investment.

+1 … I think it might be useful.

I agree that this is a good suggestion. Amazon does it with everything, then it is up to the reader to decide on the qualifications of the reviewers and the merits of the products.
