You just don’t wander far enough west

nice wood. I don’t have a need until mid summer. Let me know the next time you head to Bloomington IL, if it works out I could meet you there.

Hi GMC,
I don’t make it to Bloomington, IL much. I make it to Bloomington, IN. about twice a year.

I pass through Bloomington IL pretty often… and I apparently live within walking distance to Rich’s forest (I’m on West Front St.). Unfortunately, I’m usually traveling with two kids in car seats, and luggage. Hard to fit 100bf in besides!

Rich, I’ll give you call next time I need some wood, instead of driving down to Johnson’s. I’m pretty well stocked up right now – just cleaned out my Grandpa’s woodshop and still working through his scraps.

Good luck on your Grand Rapids trip – I know I can’t drive up there without spending a bunch of money at Woodcraft… and usually a few bucks at Uccello’s as well.

Sounds great ayryq,
it is great to hear from a local woodworker. I wish I could clear out my lumber stock. I always have too much wood. I heard some shocking news, is it true that Johnson’s workbench in South Bend is closing?

I sure hope you’re wrong about that, Rich. No way I’m going to start buying those shrink-wrapped boards at Menards.

I think it was in the South Bend Tribune last month as a final sale sign last week.

I’m sorry to hear about Johnson’s. As a novice, i’ve only just discovered them and stumble in there on occaision. I’m not as close as ayryq, but if we ever slow down at work i’ll have to run up for a look as well.

Hi greenacres2,
I was sorry to see the closing notice on TV as well. I would enjoy a visit, but considering the economy I won’t wish for your work to slow down.

I stopped by Johnson’s Workbench yesterday, and mentioned their rumored closing. The employee I talked to said “We’re not going anywhere. The store’s not closing. Except at 5:30 tonight, I guess.” No closing notices, no sales, just business as usual.
