I have a buddy that’s a woodworker. He is getting ready to move to Florida from Indiana. He is taking the bare minimum with him. He said I could come look at the wood that he’s not taking with him and take all of it that I wanted. He said he was going to burn the rest. This was the “junk wood” that he was going to burn if I hadn’t rescued it.

And yes… this is what my daughter Bre calls “junk wood”. But I know she already has her eye on a few pieces of it and has her next project swimming around in her head. I can’t wait till she cuts one of these “ugly” boards up and sands it all down and throws a real finish on it rather than paint. :) (not that there’s anything wrong with paint… just don’t like making something and then painting it.)

This was only a small portion of what he had. And… it was all FREE!

Think I can make something with this haul? LOL :)

I burn a pile like that every spring! The stuff I burn is ugly, full of knots, too small to use or covered in glue, stain, paint and mystery substances! I can’t imagine burning that pile though, looks like you scored some nice wood! Good for you!

Angie,

There is only one thing that I find more exciting than FREE wood, ...but that doesn’t have anything to do with woodworking.

As you can tell, we LJs are happy that you were able to help your friend with their dilemma. ;-)

My only question is, are you going back for the rest of it. I am a wood hoarder at heart. Never turn down free wood.

Good score.

Start pointing out things around the house that your daughter can build. If she has a favorite grandparent, show her things she can build for them. A box for a favorite teacher maybe. She will be helping you collect this stuff in no time.

Angie,

Have you seen Steve’s new Potting Bench “Video of the Week”?

Great ‘pallet wood’ challenge for your daughter to expand her horizons with.

Is there really any such thing as “junk” wood?

Nice score… have fun!

Nice find, heck even sawdust isn’t junk, works good as pumice additive in handcleaner. For those of us that have to get grease on hands in dayjobs…..(laughing)
