Topic tags/keywords: brad point drill bits

I just bought some new brad point drill bits from Lee Valley. The have a substance on the end of them to protect them. Do I leave that on till I use each bit or should I take it off right away? Second question is what do I use to take that substance off with? Thanks for the help in advance.

The “substance” just twists right off.

That stuff is just to be absolutely sure the tips don’t get damaged during shipping (say the box gets turned upside down). Take it off and chuck it.

Leave em on until you use them. May keep the edges safe and rust free.
