Topic tags/keywords: problem gloss cabinets spray painting latex lacquer question

I have spray painted our kitchen cabinet doors a high gloss latex….they look great but not as glossy as moma wants….wondering if I can over coat it with water based gloss lacquer.
Has any of you done this? Or is there something else you would suggest

Let the paint dry a few days, then wet-sand it with fine sandpaper. 1000 grit ought to do it. After that, spray again, but add some Floetrol to the paint.

You can finish it off with lacquer or shellac if you want. Experiment with some scrap to see how different things turn out.

Next time, use an oil-based paint. There are some nice latex paints out there, but I’ve yet to find one that gives as nice a finish as oil. (You can add Penetrol to oil paint to make it finish better.)

I have mixed Pratt & Lambert latex paint into ML Campbell Ultrastar waterborune lacquer with excellent success.

I keep the paint to less than 20-30%.
