Topic tags/keywords: worst smelling finish

My vote is for Cuprinol….

We had to preservative treat some crates iaw. an old mil. spec. and cleared a 9,000 s.f. building of 15 woodworkers (I’m using that term loosely) within a minute of opening the cans.

P U ! No one bothered to read the can that day….

NIOSH mask to the rescue.

What’s the worst smelling finish product you’ve dealt with?

BLO, which also stinks as a finish, though it is good for starting fires.

Waterlox seems particularly nasty to me, though I haven’t worked with a lot of different finish varieties.

Waterlox is the nastiest finish I’ve used.

I also vote for steel wool/vinegar staining as the worst.

Further, when I eat a bad meal after not eating for 8-12 hours, I have experienced some bad meal-finishing smells soon after.
