Any thoughts on what domestically available hardwood that should be used to make plates similar to ones shown on Amazon? The ones for sale are made from “Acacia” wood. I would assume that something like Red Oak would be a poor choice and that hard Maple would be a better choice.

Any suggestions?

Hard Maple would be best. Stay away from wood that has an open grain, like red oak. Some woods are toxic and should not be in contact with food. You can search the internet for “toxicity of wood”.
