Last weekend I purchased a jointer plane at an estate sale and I was wondering if anyone might know who may have made it. It was really dirty and almost all of the paint was gone but I found traces of a reddish brown or maroon paint under the handles. The only marking is cast in the front “No 08”. It has a grooved bottom and is about 24” long. -- Dan, quartersawn oak = oak with stretch marks |

to the best of my knowledge the only manufacturer that use a “0” before the number was Ohio Tools, but they never painted their plane reddish brown or maroon. Like Mos pointed out, pic’s will help. Probably an Ohio plane, didn’t Record mark their planes as such? Still, we want to see a picture! You can’t tease planeheads and not offer a photo. -- "hold fast to that which is good" |

Sorry about the lack of pictures. maybe these will help. The dimensions are exactly 24” long and 3-1/8” wide and it weighs in at just under 8 pounds. As far as my plans for it I was going to just clean off the dirt and use it but because of the lack of original paint and the surface rust I plan to repaint it and use it. .

I would say that is an Ohio Tools #08 that been stripped. Is there something that looks like a globe on the top of the iron? Let me know if your looking to part with it. It would help finish out the set.

And if you can take a shot (picture of ) it’s backside, or tail, I can perhaps see something cast behind the tote but can’t make it out in the picture ? or is it just the lighting ? -- Glen, Vernon B.C. Canada |

Its also got the knurl around the base of the front knob. Record did not have that. -- There is nothing like the sound of a well tuned hand plane. - http://timetestedtools.wordpress.com (timetestedtools at hotmail dot c0m) |
