Hello Tim, Welcome to LJ You can look at many types of workbenches if you click on projects and then on workbenches. There are many different types and styles. Good Luck, John -- Oldworld, Fair Oaks, Ca |

I am entirely too ashamed of my workbench to show it off. It is built from used 2×4’s out of a local dumpster. -- Sometimes when I am building something and it is out of square, I just bend my square. |

My current workbench can be seen under my projects as “Garage Workbench”. Not pretty, or traditional, but functional. -- Derek, Bremerton WA -- |

Welcome to LumberJocks. If you look at my workshop or projects (the two that I’ve posted so far) you will see my ‘workbenches’ . As time and resources allow I will be modifying either of these or building one from scratch. There are lots of examples to look at here, enjoy! -- ....next big purchase is wood for the next project, Mark |

I have a virtual workbench that I am conjuring into a real work bench. You can download the current model here and a real workbench for power tools. (click the pic to see the whole thing) Make sure you understand how you do work and start with a bench to accomodate your style. -- Scott - Chico California http://chicowoodnut.home.comcast.net |

If you run a working shop your workbench is like your forearm – another scar with every new build. bbqKing -- bbqKing, Lawrenceville |

My workbench is in the Workshop area of my profile. See if your library has a copy of The Workbench Book. You’ll get lots of ideas and inspiration from it. -- Gerry |

I work outside whenever possible. A shaving horse is where I spend most of my time. Assembly tables include a picnic table and a set of saw horses with barn wood planks for a top. Oh ya, I do have an indoor set of 20 foot long built-in benches made from very old 2”x8” yellow pine lumber that I found in a barn. Sometimes the rain and snow drives me indoors. -- Randy (P), rustic wood crafts, Morning View, Kentucky |

Mine, soon after a built it a couple years ago” http://www.ncwoodworker.net/pp/data/830/medium/OakBench.jpg White oak top, southern yellow pine base. I built it before I had a power thickness planer, so all the boards were hand planed and hand jointed. Go -- Go http://ncwoodworker.net/pp/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=730 |

I agree with Chicowoodnut. There are alot of pictures of workbenches on the site but before you build one, determine what types of projects you plan to build. I have built several over the years and I found if they are too big, they collect alot of crap. Too small or narrow, may not accomodate cabinets, etc. I found a bench 4’ x 6’ works the best for me. Of course, it depends on what your area will allow. |
