hi all.. I have a base corner cabinet that sits by itself in a small corner of our kitchen

the back sides are 24” and the sides are 12”

on top I plan to build a box…this is where I’m wondering what the best size would be… I don’t want it the same size as the bottom as I find that visually busy…

in the drawing I’m showing here the upper cabinet sides would be about 4inches while the back sides are 24” (same as bottom cabinet)...

would even smaller look good or will it start to look strange and serve very little use(in terms of storage)?

any design tips are appreciated as I’ve yet to start building

Pablo

you’re right… thanks for pointing it out…somehow I missed that

did some calculations and if I went with sides of 7 inches I would need backs to be 19” in order for the door size to be the same
basically I can play with the following combinations if I intend to have an identical front (where the door will go)

Note: based on a 24 back with 12 sides that gives me a front panel (the diagonal piece) of 16.97

backs —sides
21” — 9”
20” — 8”
19” — 7”
18” — 6”
17” — 5”
16” — 4”

any smaller than that and it will start to look silly!

I’ll draw it out to see what it looks like…

there I sketched it with the backs at 21” and the sides at 7”... it does look much better, pays to sketch before you cut…and to ask people who know more :) thanks
