I was just getting ready to order some doors from Walzcraft and was shocked at how much the shipping cost was. On top of being charged tax, they wanted over 50% of the cost of the order in shipping costs. Ridiculous in my opinion.

I’d like the option to order out my doors, but at this cost, it may be more cost effective to just make my own.

Are there any local door making companies in the Jacksonville, FL area I could buy made-to-order doors and drawer fronts from??

Thanks…..

Try checking out local small cabinet shops in your area. They maybe would be willing to make them for you or can give you a lead on someone that supplies them in your area.

That’s easier said than done. The local cabinet shops won’t share any secrets with me because they want me to buy cabinets from them.

Hey, a local!
I don’t have a definative answer for you, but you may want to check with the folks over at Florida Southern Plywood – http://www.fspcjax.com/ – They probably know who does what in this town, as they seem to be the only local lumber suplier (that I can find anyway) other than woodcraft.

Good luck, and let me know what you find out!

Nice!

Yes, I have been buying my lumber from them recently. Much cheaper than Home Depot!!

I’ll give them a call.

Noone,

Check out Decore-ative Specialities. They’re not located in Florida, but they are one of the largest door manufactureres and they have plants in California and North Carolina.

I think you will find their prices reasonable and I’ve ordered doors from their California plant before and didn’t think their shipping was that bad.

You could also check with any of your hardwood suppliers. A lot of suppliers are offering doors now or if they don’t, they may be able to give you a lead to local shops that make doors.

Good luck

Well my local hardwoods dealer referred me to another local cabinet maker who in turn referred me to more out of state dealers. This is what I have come up with so far:

http://www.decore.com
http://www.amdoor.com/
http://www.gahwd.com/
http://www.hpcdoors.com/

www.decore.com will be Decore-ative Specialities. They are good to deal with. I’m not familiar with the others.

John-

What’s the shipping cost like with Decore? Compared to Walzcraft?

Noone,

Not sure of the difference; If I remember right, I checked on Walzcraft years ago and thought their pricing was high.

Maybe it was because of their shipping charges, but can’t remember if I ever got that far in pricing their doors or if it was based simply on their pricing for the doors.

Decore packs and ships their doors thru Fed-Ex. The last shipment I recieved from them was from their California Plant (Shipped to my shop in South Carolina). The total order for Premium Cherry Doors and drawer fronts came to $1,253.00. The order had to be shipped Fed-Ex. freight and the shipping charges were $153.00.

That was about a year ago, just before I retired. Hope that helps a little.

Hope that helps.

You might try CustomMade.com. No cost to inquire from some woodworkers in your area and I’m sure they have a few from the Jacksonville area.

That sounds reasonable. I was quoted $70 shipping on 4 9×20 drawer fronts and 2 20×20 doors. I thought that it was expensive to place an order for $145 then have to pay an extra $70 on top for shipping.

Just placed the order with decore.com

The same order was considerably less expensive at decore.com.

Thanks for the tips!
