Topic tags/keywords: question tip

Found an unloved Bosch 4000 yesterday. It runs well, but is covered in paint splatter and drywall mud. Also the table top’s finish is chipped in places.

Am I able to sand off the top’s finish like most table saws and then treat it with wax etc? Also, any secret to getting paint off the damned thing? Tried a bit with minerial spirits, bit it didn’t do much.

For the price, I figured I could make it into a labor of love. Right now, its a pig.

Nice find. Assuming the saw works well, clean that pig up! It wouldn’t take that much effort . .

I’d use a new razor in a razor blade scraper to get that paint off, or a super-sharp chisel for really hard paint blobs, then sand clean. Bondo filler in the chipped areas, then sand clean. I’d then alkyd-enamel spray paint (not lacquer) the top 2-3 times, then clearcoat it (not with clear lacquer) with polyurethane spray 2-3 coats and then wax or Pledge that puppy.
