Good morning. I signed up last night while searching the web for workbench ideas.

My name is Joel from Oregon. I work as a locomotive engineer for the railroad and am on call most of the time, so with what time off I do have, I spend time with family and do the woodworking gig.

I started woodworking about 4 years ago with simple projects. Built a small entertainment center with pullout drawers to hold about 300 DVDs. All joints are rabbet and dado with drawer lock joints for the drawers. I borrowed a router to get started, then purchased my own along with a new router table top. From then on I’ve been slowly adding to my tool collection.

In all, woodworking is relaxing.

More to come…

Welcome, Joel!

There are tons of great workbenches posted here… your biggest problem will be deciding which ideas to use.

Welcome Joel,

I hope you find this site as informative and enjoyable as I have. A lot of great folks talking about what we love to do.

I like the train icon you’ve got.

Can’t believe I forgot!

Mining, logging, and railroad history are also hobbies of mine, railroads especially. I suppose that makes my railroad carrier much easier. I started a webpage 10 years ago about the history of the rail line that I currently work on. Some really old photos on it. The main page is here: http://spcascades.railfan.net

Also, there is a section on that webpage devoted to the local logging in the Westfir, Oregon area with a lot of mill shots from back in the day courtesy of the retired VP of the mill.

That section is here: http://spcascades.railfan.net/westernLumberCo.html

Enjoy!
