I’ve been hunting for a used 6”+ jointer on Craigslist list and would like some input on what to disect when i look at them in person. Can anybody post a couple things to look at when i’m checking these things out?

-- Great Coffee= 8oz strong coffee, 1tbsp brown sugar, 1tbsp 1/2&1/2, 1 heaping teaspoon mahoganny

Depends on the price how picky you want to be. If its one that parts are still availible and the price is low you might want to just jump on it and fix it up.

Basically does the fence slide/tilt/lock, does the guard work, does the cutter head spin and are the flat parts flat. They’re simple machines.

Assuming it runs fine, I would say the most important aspect is to be sure the tables are flat & coplanar and that the fence is flat. A long & truly flat straightedge is indispensable.

Blades are easily & relatively cheaply replaced.

Keep in mind that Grizzly has new 6” jointers for as low as $335.

get a straight edge, the longer the better

place on infeed table or outfeed table

use calipers to measure at head…..........and as far away fro head yet still on table

try this ten times

then be the judge

next grab a piece of wood and put a straight edge on it after jointing

repeat
