I am in the process of finishing off an African Mahogany box. I was planning on filling the grain with a behlens filler but decided at the last moment to not do it and proceeded with a lacquer spray (Defft) finish. Now that I have a couple spray coats of lacquer on it I changed my mind and would like to go back and fill the grain after all. Prior to the lacquer I used a water based dye and then a couple wash coats of Zinnser seal coat shellac. I have sanded the lacquer with 320 wet and of there is still plenty of lacquer finish remaining. I am reluctant to sand much more as I will cut into the dye. Do you think it will be ok if I now start the pore filling process? After, I intend to use lacquer as the top coats.
