Topic tags/keywords: resource question

As most of you know, the ads you see are based on things that you have looked at or whatever. For some reason, everywhere I go now has ads for Teds Woodworking. I have never gone directly to the site and although I have made numerous comments about”it” none of them have been favoable. None will ever be favorable for this bunch of crooks. Anyway I can rid of them?

Is there any way the lumberjocks community can help to stop Teds woodworking? I know that Steve Ramsey covered it awhile back, but I think people forgot about the cause/lost interest. Can we try and get thousands of people to report it to the bureau of buisiness? If i recall correctly, they have been using copyrighted material from magazines without permission for years. Its too bad really that the ad’s have been coming up on this site, but I’m sure that the admins will do something about it.

No I didn’t see it before. Isn’t there a computer geek in the crowd that can crash this “things” control?

Exposing them for what they are is probably the best bet. It worked for Laguna ! They may be amoral but money talks, even for those guys.

Web advertising in 10 seconds: Ads that you see in banners are increasingly generated by optimization algorithms keying off (a) you and (b) what you’re observed to visit / read about. Via cookie profile of your mobile and/or desktop you are identified, stalked, and then served ad after ad by advertisers who buy access to your profile and then the tools used to track you. Save yourself by frequently clearing out your cookies. Seems invasive and creepy for the man to know who you are and where you are, but then someone has to pay for all of this free content on the interwebs.

I never see those or pretty much any other web ads. You really don’t have to if you don’t want them. Just use Firefox and install the AdBlock Plus add-on. I don’t even see the little text ads on Google searches. I guess I forget the web is a very commercial place for most you.

Blocking the ads is just masking the problem which is Ok but I’d truely like to see an end to Ted’s woodworking altogether.

I’d truly like to see an end to Ted’s woodworking altogether.

In the world of the Internet and international commerce ending anything someone else is doing is an almost impossible task. Even if someone managed to get through to these guys with a complaint about a stolen plan, they’d simply remove that one and continue selling the rest. The reason you see it everywhere is Ted’s Woodworking is on the infamous ClickBank marketing network which allows anyone who registers to sell it for 60-70% commission. It’s being promoted by literally hundreds of small time marketers.

The best way to combat this type of thing is through good community based websites like this.

Monte hacking the site would be illegal and unethical and beyond my realm of behavior. Now if you can talk my wife into not giving me my Meds. heeheee Unfortunately having a open to the public site that has advertising leaves you wide open for these adds. Also since it is promoted from numerous IP addresses it is hard to control. If you use Google you can use thier pop up blocker also.

It’s a sad thing that this crap is taking advantage of the unknown that think they are getting a bargain, this is a continuous and on going thing that has no end and prob will never. It’s those taking advantage of others and I don’t understand why the finance company is allowing it, just today I had an add pop up on my news feed right smack dab in the middle of the page big letters with Teds advertising masked, when I went to the page and added Steve’s video in the comment and mentioned beware my comments were removed and all comments were blocked.

Yes we are aware of the issue but there isn’t much we can do about it as there are several services that are used to direct people to the site. (or something along that line)
