With all of the bad news this past week, something good is happening up here in Northern Minnesota.

A company from India had ground breaking ceremonies for a 1.6 billion dollar Iron ore to steel mill.

It looks like some of the money leaving the USA is starting to trickle back.

Hi Dick;

Glad to hear something positive in this economy.

That should have a major impact on the local economy, giving many families a “light in the tunnel”, that isn’t a train!

Nice. I was starting to think that it wouldn’t be long before good American workers had to move to India or the Phillipines to get a job with an American company.

Regards, JM

They say that for each job at the mill, will create 3 spin off jobs.

There will be more, I predict as the cost of fuel begins to make shipping finished goods to the US prohibitively expensive.

There seems to be a nation wide dip in scrap steel prices, which is a good thing. This allows steel and some cast iron items to be produced at a better price.

Hopefully that helps keep prices steady for a little while longer.

Oddly enough we just had a cancellation…a direct (not trickle down) effect from the economy. It seems our “client” lost $6,000,000 on AIG. Already broke ground on thier project but put a hold on the “details” which includes us.

Our local recycler is paying top dollar for scrap steel.

I think walmart is hiring…....

I guess they’ll have to import some construction workers, because there’s not enough in this area to handle a project this size.
