Topic tags/keywords: question resource birch alder arts and crafts

Hi Fellow LJ’S.

I am looking in to materials for making knife handles with. The website i buy my knife blades from also sell the handle materials too.
I saw listed Alder root and Birch root.
I live with forests near by and a few of the relatives are taking trees for fire wood.
How do i store the roots.
I know i have to dig and chop them out. Do they need washing then boiling like the do with burls?
I am hoping in about a month or so to extract the roots (-16 this morning).
Would like to have every thing ready in advance.

Many many thanks in advance.
