Topic tags/keywords: jointer screw parts

I dug a bit deeper in the box of parts for the Reliant jointer I just bought, I guess I should have looked closer. One of the 1/4 – 28×0.267 long screws with a 5/16 domed hex head was MIA. I am pretty sure that one from another make would fit. I can find screws for delta and for jet but of course nobody gives size, thread or length. I am hoping that someone either knows what size and length their jointer takes, or maybe has an extra from an old one laying around

Update: the Grizzly G0452 appears to take the same gib screws, to be sure I need to see if I can find an owner who could try a 5/16 wrench and see if it fits the screws on the blade gibs. If it does I need 1, if not I will just order 12 of them, so they will balance. . . and so we don’t need two different wrenches . . .

thanks

If you just bought the machine and it was missing parts Grizzly will gladly take care of you. Call the Tech department and tell them what you need.

Kolwdwrkr, it ISN’T a Grizzly, it is a Reliant which is an orphan machine, it was sold by woodworkers warehouse, which went out of business a couple of years ago, I bought off Craig’s list, the blades were missing, but I thought I had all the rest of the parts. Unfortunately I was missing a screw. So I am trying to find one to match the other 11 that I have. of course most mfg don’t spec what their parts are exactly, fortunately Grizzly says that theirs are 1/4-28 X 9/32 which is what I have, it just doesn’t spec the head size. They give you an 8mm wrench but I suspect that the screw is actually the 5/16 head that I am looking for. 8mm works, is just a bit sloppy. Why would they put a metic head on an SAE thread??? I may need to grind of a few tho to get the exact length, but that I can handle :-)

Fred, I went out to the shop to see if I could get the info you need. I think I got a little confused on exactly what you wanted. According to the parts list, the Gib Screws are 1/4-28×9/32”. I hope this helps you some. If not, you can go to http://www.grizzly.com/products/6-Jointer/G0452 and click on the parts list to get a PDF of all the parts. Let me know how it goes.

jj the length of the screw is 9/32 , the diameter is 1/4 the thread is 28tpi. it doesn’t spec the head size . . .I got the parts manual from their site…. my heads are 5/16 ie a 5/16 wrench fits them, an 8 mm, which they supply also fits, tho imho a bit loosely. I am hoping that the heads on the grizzly screws are the same size, so I can buy 1 and not have to have an odd size wrench, and more importantly so they balance. otherwize I guess I will have to buy 12 of them so they match. could you physicaly try a 5/16 wrench to see if it fits???

thanks

Sorry for the delay Fred. Yes, both the 5/16 and the 8mm fit on the G0452. Both are a little loose, but they should work.

jj—exactly what I wanted, now I know I only need to order one screw, sounds like exactly the same as the one from the Reliant.

Thanks again for your time and effort, buying 1 is better than buying 12 and much much better than the $75 it would have taken to get one machined. I am finding that is is possible to locate parts for my orphan Reliant, with a bit of help from other lumberjocks

Sorry about that Fred. I misread the thread and thought the purchase was from grizzly. I’m glad there are other members here that could help and saving money is a plus too. I hope the project is used on many projects!
