Hi, I’m wondering if any of you vent your dust collector to the outside. I am thinking about venting to the outside, right into my neighbor’s yard (I’m kidding about that). That way I don’t have to deal with filters. I live in a rural area so I don’t think I have to worry about my neighbors. There’s no water heater or furnace in my garage either. Has anyone encountered any problems with this?

If you heat or cool your shop you could vent the heated or cooled air right out with the dust. BE CAREFUL with your design.

You might also want to run that vent pipe aways from the shop. You would be surprised at how little dust can put on a heavy coat of dust on the landscape around your shop.

Mark from The Woodwhisperer does—he said so in one of the early podcasts—but, apparently, he lives in the middle of the desert, so I doubt the dust coating of the landscape worries him the slightest. Cool air leaks are a consideration though.

I know a woodworker, he’s a pro and has a 5000 square foot shop, he has either 2 or 3 blowers and blows them straight outside and down the side of the hill. He points them directly away from the house.

There’s no heating or cooling. When I’m woodworking, the garage door is always open. I’m far enough away that the noise doesn’t bother the neighbors. The garage is also detached and about 30 or 40 feet away from my house so it sounds like I should be able to do this. Thanks for the help.
