I am not an ebay veteran, use the site occasionally. Will try to find fair deals, and sometimes sell on it.
4 weeks ago I bought 2 12V lithium ridgid batteries and charger, advertised like new, for 50.00 shipped to my home. I bought them on a friday, I did not pay on Saturday, sunday I recieve a message “can I get paid” and on Monday I paid in full. I get very busy in the shop, so a little more then 2 weeks pass and I realize I never got the package. I began sending messages, 3 in all, just requesting status. The seller never would respond, finally I opened a case requesting ebay encourage the seller to ship the items I purchased. 4 days after I opened the case, the seller finally responded that his mother had passed away and he will issue me a refund.
Hmmm, so I am sympathetic to the passing of his mother, but why would the seller now refuse to ship the items after holding my money for the past month. We have needed the batteries for some time now, we only have 3 batteries left we are sharing at the shop and 2 more would have given us 5 which would be sufficient. In fact, I was at HD yesterday, they had my ridgid 12v gun, 2 batteries and charger on sale for 89.00. A great deal and I almost bought a set, but I try not to go looking for reasons to spend money and I also knew in the back of my mind I had already committed to buying 2 batteries in like new condition on Ebay, so I restrained.
Now tomorrow I am going to HD in hopes they have not sold out of those 4 sets they had on sale.
Oh well, hopefully the guy does not drag his feet on getting me my refund.

Yeah, I thought maybe since he had to ask to get paid he might have been upset and dragged his feet on shipping. Oh well, hopefully HD has that sale tomorrow. I think there is a good chance because there were 4 sets new in packaging on the clearance table.

Provide a negative review for the seller. As part of the review mention that you are commenting on the sellers lack of specific performance and their breach of contract. Share with us the name of the seller so that we can be wary.
You can open a case with eBay or PayPal. I have used them extensively for other types of purchases, and they are responsive. Once in a while there is a bad apple. I do check feedback as well; also simple things like whether they can spell and the quality of the picture influence me. That eBay “TopSeller” mark also is something I find reassuring.

Hammer him on the feedback. I got it, sometimes stuff happens. However, when he responded with “I will give you a refund”, he should have sent the refund immediately after that. I am sympathetic with his issues, but it is a business transaction and he is responsible to uphold his side of the transaction. He had ample time to complete the deal, he simply failed to. I use eBay a lot and feedback is invaluable. If I see a seller with feedback relating to not shipping an item or failure to provide a refund, I will stay away regardless if I need that item or not.
Don’t be afraid to keep eBay on his back also. To sell on eBay, you have to provide a link to your bank account so they can recoup funds when you fail to provide a refund. You will get your money back eventually.
Don’t post feedback until your case is resolved. You have 45 days from day of sale to open a case, and upgrade it to a claim. This is a classic ‘Non-performing Seller’ complaint, and eBay/Paypal most always finds in favor of the buyer. Just hope that the funds are still accessible by Paypal from his account to yours, or you are S.O.L.

I have been pretty lucky on both Ebay and Craig’s list. I have been doing business on each for years and have never had much for trouble. Maybe he is out of town at his deceased relatives location. Hope you get it worked out ok.
His excuse sounds similar to a transaction I was involved in years ago. I bought a hard drive from a guy, paid for it, but didn’t hear back from him. I tried several times to contact him with no reply. Then one day, I got an email from his wife explaining he had a heart attack and was still recovering. She had run across my email inquiry and wanted to make sure I got my hard drive…and I did. I thanked her and wished him well.

I agree with Survivor I had one bad deal on ebay on a lyman turret reloading press had I taken time to read his feedback I would never have purchased from him. I did eventually get my press after opening a pay pal case and waiting nearly two months. I did not dare leave bad feedback as the guy had a history of leaving really nasty feedback for anyone who did so. I left him no feedback ebay pretty much drops the ball on guys like this they should be banned.

eBay can be a great place for deals but the odd seller is a real jerk. I always look thru their feedback and see what people complained about. As others have said, their feedback score should be very high, otherwise avoid them.
