My last Padauk project had some decent pieces left over so I thought I’d make a clock out of what was left.
The clock face is cherry.
I need to cut the backer board on this piece, but I’m having a hard time deciding what I should do.

Bear in mind I have a pendulum coming soon for this piece.

I want to cut that board off at the top and have it follow the contour of the clock, that much I know, it’s the bottom I don’t know what to do with. I know I won’t leave it square. I’ve though about a sweeping curve, but I want something that accentuates the clock body yet provides a good backdrop to a swinging pendulum.

Any idea’s?

I’d go without the backdrop, Russell, and would consider ways to turn the pendulum into Padauk. Very pretty work!

How would it look if you cut the back board by starting at the numbers 5 & 7 and cut outward towards the lower corners of the back?
They’d match the 2 topmost angles of the clockface.

Does that make sense when you read it? It does in my mind :-)

Joe, I was thinking something like that. How would you treat the bottom of the board?

Jay, it’s an interesting idea, but I think the brass pendulum will match the clock better.

Maybe, Russell. But brass is so 80s!

For perspective, here is a clock hanging on our wall…part of my wife’s clock collection.

Yours would look pretty cool this way, even if it is brass.
