Hey folks . Just noticed a dowelmax with 1/4” kit for $250.00 buy it now.

I’m not in any way associated with the auction. Just thought I would give heads up :-)

In my opinion after purchasing and using Jessem’s new doweling jig I don’t know if this is a good deal. I suppose I should say I’m no way associated with with Jessem.

I thought about the dowelmax for a long time, but ended up not buying one. I do use dowels, and I have a $70 jig from rockler or woodcraft that I like a lot (4 holes, edges only, bushings for various sizes,... that one). But I only use dowels for alignment in edges or to give extra strength to curved pieces that don’t have grain running straight through (think rocking chair rockers). For my other joining tasks where a groove/dado/rabbet wont do I go with M&T or though dowels. Best thing about through dowels is that you don’t have to worry about alignment issues that a doweling jig solves.

If i were a production shop I would go with a domino, but being me I find a simple jig is plenty. My $0.02

Have your say...
