I was hoping from these photos someone might be able to tell me what kind of tree this is, I got this log from some tree trimmers as they were removing it from someones front yard, I was thinking some sort of Ash?

Thanks

It sure looks like ash. Does it have an open grain like oak? Maybe if you take a small slice from it, sand it. and rub some finish on it then post a close up shot it might be easier to see the grain for a better ID.

Randy, Ash for sure since I am just a few miles from you. :) Looks like you got the base of the tree.

I cut a fair amount of ash, I would guess it’s ash.

Yep Randy it’s part of the base and as I had expected it was Ash.

Be careful.Ash has a number of problems these days. Insects are killing them off, and they are forbidden from interstate movement. Otherwise what are you planning if anything, at this point.

It is gonna have a bunch of “goofy” grain judging from the bark.
Bet it’ll look good.

Well the answer is provided but I wanted to say what a great website we have here. I am sure impressed with the friendliness of members here and their willing nature to answer questions and post projects. I spend more time here than any other website!
