This is from the Daily Astorian newspaper from 1963. Times change and still remain the same…

Remember when we used to worry about proposals to raise the ceiling on the national debt? Now it has been raised again and again so often that a new proposal for it goes by almost without notice. Treasury Secretary Dillon has just warned Congress that the present $308 billion limit will have to go up to $320 billion soon to take care of the proposed tax reduction and consequent deficit.

Congressional approval presumably will be almost automatic. Our Congressmen could make themselves immortal if they would only vote “no” for once. Where will it all end?

Yes, and 4 years after that headline I remember sitting in Civics class in high school and we were discussing the first time the budget deficit reached $100 billion.

$100 billion today to those jack wagons in congress and the WH is mere chump change.

Its all funny money and I’m not about to worry about something that is completely out of my control.

I say let-er-rip.

I am somewhat anal-expulsive by-the-way :-)
