I am on many forums that are V bulleton type forums so I am used to that format. I have never been on a forum like this and am still getting my feet wet. So this might be a stupid question, sorry.

Is there a way to respond and quote to a specific post?

All I can figure out is to respond to the thread in general.

Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum Shane! There isn’t a way to respond to a specific comment like you can on some forums. The best thing is just to copy and paste the text you want to quote, then put it in “quotes” or italics to set it apart.

Sometimes we just respond with Twitter-like names, such as @Shane or @Baileigh when we want to direct a post specifically…or just say “Hey, Shane!”

Welcome to the forums.

@Rex B – Believe it or not, my mother is named Rex. That’s her real name too. Her initials are REB. So, she too is a Rex B. Weird, but even though Rex is a guy’s name, I’ve always thought differently. ;)

That is unusual! I’m named after my grandad, but he passed away long before I was born. I’ve only met 2 or 3 other people named Rex, and they were all male.

Regina is the female form of the name Rex. It’s unusual to hear Rex as a female name, but if that’s what the parents liked, who’s to say it isn’t right?

Welcome Shane.

Is there a way to respond and quote to a specific post?
Just put a underscore ”_” before and after.

You sometimes see it like this.

I find it hard to search for topics as well. Any advise?

It seems to jumble them all together when I search. If I search the word “Baileigh” it gives me pages and pages of the same thread.

Is there a way to make the newest posts show up first like on a V bulletin forum?

Unfortunately the search function in LJ leaves a lot to be desired. Its often listed in the site feedback threads. I hope I’m wrong and somebody corrects me, but no, I don’t think there is a way to sort search results.

I double post most of my blogs, here and on my own blog, and I find I reference the wordpress blog after trying to find where I posted it here. It’ll get better, so for now it is what it is.

Yes, the threads here are, well, threads, and not trees (which is surprising considering the subject matter).

Sometimes people use the post # to respond to a particular comment. That way I can refer to your post #7 instead of referring to “Shane” or “Baileigh Inc”. This helps if I want to make is clear that I am replying to your post #7 and not your post #2. This isn’t great, especially with very long threads, but it seems to work.

And to take what ChuckV wrote on step further, by clicking on the post number in the thread, it opens it, you can actually link to a post number.

Is there a way to see the latest post first rather than having to scroll through pages of posts every time I reply to a topic?

2 ways Shane. If you reply it will take you too the end. You’ll sometimes see some folks just saying “Hi” or something like that. That’s just to get you to the end.

There is also a show all post button, you can scroll to the end with that as well.
