So my new table saw will come with an Xacta Fence II, but I already have a 50” Vega so I’m wondering which one is better? I like the micro-adjust and the fact you can place upward pressure due to the back hook on the Vega but I’m wholly unfamiliar with the Xacta design. Thoughts?

Damian, did you get any responses on this? I am sort of in the market for a new(er) table saw and am very interested in comparisons of fences and such. Now if I can just convince Jen that a new saw really is more important than space in the shop…garage I am all set :-)

I didn’t, that being said I’d go for the Vega. They both do the job, and well, but the Vega moves a lot smoother than the Xacta and the micro adjust is a great little feature. I put the Xacta on, just because it was shiny and new, and it does get the job done, but all things being equal I’d go with the Vega.

Don’t know about the Xacta II, but I haven’t been overly impressed with the first generation Xacta. I’ve had trouble with the friction pad on the locking mechanism dropping off (and since my re-seller had a drawer of replacement parts under the register, I’d wager this has been a “known issue”), a bow developing in the UHMW polyethelene fence faces. Little 25ยข parts boogering up the $100 fence made me wonder about quality control issues.

The other thing that I don’t really like about the Xacta is the sheer weight of the thing, I guess it shows how solidly built it is but jeez lifting that thing off is no small feat. The Vega by comparison pops off real easy (all aluminum I think) but is certainly no less rigid.

Interesting, I will have to check out the Vega… and then find a saw to go underneath it LOL!
