Sorry Viktor,My question is for those who have read the article.
I want to make sure that I understood their conclusions correctly and I want to know their reactions.

Do I understand correctly when I read in this article that a Thien separators is as effective and sometime more effective that a cyclone?

I read the article, but didn’t get excited.

The way I understood it, a Thein is better than a can top separator, as a bargain alternative. NOT as effective as a cyclone. NOT as effective as a Dust Deputy. Cheaper, with the downside that you have to clean the filter more often.

I just have a can top (from Rockler?) and a Harbor Freight 1.5 HP collector. It ain’t that great, but better than a shop vac. For now, I’ll save my pennies for a 2 – 3 HP cyclone.

I have a trash can with a Thien separator inside and a can top separator on it and then I have a wok under my filter.
The whole thing works quite well but I now believe that I need more SCFM to collect not only the big chips but also the fine dust.

but I now believe t{h}at I need more {CFM}BINGO

while some people have “success” plumbing single stage collectors with separators and what not, these really are designed for single-tool use. for better collection qualities you really need to step it up to something BIGGER that can pick up more and is designed from the ground up to separate the fines. that is what the cyclones were designed for.

I wish they had tried a Thien top hat. I also have trouble taking FWW seriously with these articles. That being said, I think I am going to buy the new plastic Super Dust Deputy and vent it outside.

I thought the article was ok and I agree with JD. I like the flow test they did.

I too wanted to see the top hat for comparison.

I have a top hat pre separator AND a theirn baffle in my jet spin chamber. I may take the baffle out to see if I get better performance.
