This is a 24” long jointer plane. The patent date of the plane iron cap reads 1867. I believe this is a pretty rare plane. I picked it up about 12 yrs ago and placed it on top of my plane cabinet and haven’t touched it since. when I disassembled it I noticed that the lateral adjustment turns freely but it doesn’t engage the iron. It looks a bit worn. I believe it’s all original.

According to a collectors book, in 2000 this plane was worth between $150 and $300. i paid $200 for it. I’ll sell it for $220 plus shipping from AZ.

That would be a type 8, judging by the TM and the lever adjust. I would say your price is quite a bit off. They are not rare at all and go for around 20-50 on ebay. It would only be worth that much if it was a type Type 1 with the same amount of damage or if it had the “handy” marks along the side.. I’m no pro, but I buy and trade tools regularly.

Ouch!

I saw one on ebay that was around 50 years newer. Not sure how much the age of the plane plays a role in the price. I guess we’ll find out.

If it was a pre lateral it may be worth a little more, but I’d say $40-$50 would be tops.

WOW- Sorry you paid so much for it! I have a couple of them and I don’t think I paid more than $15 for either! I would suggest restoring it and trying to get at least some of your money back, then chalking it up to lesson learned!

Don’t feel bad though, we all mess up sometimes!
