Topic tags/keywords: sale lathe turning sheldon antique

I’m not selling it, but this lathe is for sale.
Don’t know if the price is good, but I’d hate to see this thing scrapped or something.

Thanks Pete. It has already been noted over on the Sheldon Lathe Yahoo site and there is a lot of buzzing around over it. I have an 11” Sheldon; fine machine.

MrRon,
Is their asking price fair from what you can see in the add?

Hard to say – a lot depends on how much work it
needs to bring it to a given standard of precision.

Metal lathes develop tiny amounts of slop in sliding
parts and deviations from flat in the ways. While
they can be restored, it’s a lot of labor and requires
skill to do it.

Alistair,
Thanks for the input…especially the link!!!
Not a machinist (of metal) but who can tell…I do want a metal lathe because of the different things you can do with it (screw feed, threading, metal turning.)

Have your say...
