Topic tags/keywords: lumber packard woodworks Just curious as to whether anyone out there has purchased lumber or project wood from Packard Woodworks? I receive their catalogs and their prices are pretty good. I usually buy my wood from one of two local Woodcraft stores, but thought I crowd source this to see if anyone has had great/not-so-great experiences. Thanks in advance for the guidance. -- Measure, cut, curse, repeat. |

It might be worth a trip up to Hagerstown, MD (actually Hicksville, MD). The Hicksville Planing Mill has excellent prices and you can pick through the stock yourself.. It’s about an hour and a half from you. -- Lew- Time traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins! |

I haven’t heard of Packard before. Dunlap Woodcrafts in Chantilly is where I get most of my wood from. They’re cheaper than Woodcraft and very friendly. -- Josh, Virginia , http://crossgrain.wordpress.com |

Thank you Josh. I’ve been there a few times, but not recently. I’ll swing by the next time I’m out that way. -- Measure, cut, curse, repeat. |

Thanks Tim. Driven by it before, but wasn’t able to stop. Sent an email to them last year and heard back from them. Seems like a great place to shop. -- Measure, cut, curse, repeat. |

Chris, I have never purchased any wood from Packard but have purchased MANY $$$$ worth of tools & peppermill mechanisms and wine corks from them over the years and they’re a GREAT business to do deal with. With that said, I wouldn’t expect anything but greatness from them based on my past business with them. If you’re worried about moisture content or the quality, call and talk to them. You’ll probably talk to the person picking and sending you the wood. I just looked at the satellite pic of their address and like I said, it’s pretty small. Depending on what you’re looking for, I been thinking of getting some bowl material from http://www.texaswoodcrafts.net/. I want to try some mesquite and they specialize in it along with other native Texas woods. Good luck and I think Packard Woodworks is tops, but remember, I don’t know what their wood’s like. -- Jim Roberts, Port Orchard Washington |
